Applegreen has a new president of its U.S. business as the Irish travel plaza company and fuel marketer expands in the states.

Andy Malik became president of Applegreen’s U.S. business on May 18, a company spokesman confirmed to CSP Daily News. He will primarily be working out of Applegreen’s U.S. office in Glen Rock, New Jersey. The company is based in Dublin.

Malik (pictured below) will be focused on delivering the best experience for travelers using Applegreen’s 181 U.S. locations, the spokesman said.

“Applegreen continues to invest significantly in its U.S. operations, as it will open the first of four new highway service plazas on the E-470 in Colorado later this year as part of a $70 million U.S. investment,” the spokesman said. “We are also keen to expand our highway service plaza business into new markets in the U.S., and Andy will also be playing a key role in this area.”

Zack Kollias had held the position until February 2025, the Applegreen spokesman said.

In June, Malik posted on LinkedIn that he was leaving Sodexo—which provides food services to companies, hospitals, schools, universities and stadiums—after more than 13 years.

“This industry has given me so much, and I will always be grateful for the opportunity to serve patients, support communities and see firsthand the work of dedicated healthcare professionals who make a difference every day," he said. "As I close this chapter, I am honored to begin my new role as President of Applegreen U.S. I look forward to the opportunity ahead, learning a new industry and leading the next phase of growth with an outstanding team.”

Malik posted on Tuesday that the new Applegreen U.S. website had launched.

“The new site helps travelers quickly find nearby Applegreen locations, explore available food, fuel and vehicle services, and plan their stops with greater confidence,” he said. “Time on the road matters, and whether someone is commuting to work, traveling with family, or taking a long-distance trip, finding the right place to stop should be easy.”

In November, Applegreen completed a $450 million project to rebuild or renovate all 27 service areas along the 570-mile New York State Thruway. It was in talks for a similar $750 million project in Massachusetts, but that deal fell through when Applegreen terminated lease discussions in September
