ASBPE Honors Winsight Magazines

CSP, Convenience Store Products finalists in eight categories

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. -- Besting their record from last year, the editors and designers of CSP magazine have been honored with eight regional finalist nods and four national nominations in the Azbee Awards. Convenience Store Products magazine has been recognized by ASBPE for the first time.

National and regional awards ceremonies for the Azbees, presented by the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE), will happen later this summer, with the magazines winning gold, silver or bronze awards.

The December 2015 profile of CSP’s 2015 Retailer Leader of the Year (RLOY), Tony Kenney of Speedway, written by senior editor/special projects coordinator Samantha Oller, was recognized as a national and regional finalist for individual profile.

The profiles of CSP’s RLOY consistently have been recognized for business-press excellence. Senior editor/content development coordinator Angel Abcede was awarded Azbees for his profiles of Sam Susser, then of Susser Holdings, CSP’s 2014 RLOY; John MacDougall of Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes, 2013 RLOY; and Don Zietlow of Kwik Trip, 2012 RLOY.

Oller again was recognized, along with group director of editorial production Jennifer Bulat and lead designer Nico Heins, in the category of special supplement for CSP’s 2015 Category Management Handbook(CMH) for both regional and national awards. This in-depth special issue of CSP has been recognized numerous times over the past 12 years for excellence in information graphics and as a special supplement.

In the same category, the 2015 Foodservice Handbook also was recognized as a national and regional finalist. This is the first Azbee win for the supplement, the official publication of Winsight’s FARE conference.

In the category of article design, CSP’s April 2015 cover story “Hit the Jackpot” was honored as a national and regional finalist.

In overall magazine design, the February and April 2015 issues of CSP were honored as a regional finalist. CSP’s 2015 redesign is nominated as a regional finalist in magazine redesign.

In the category of regular department, CSP’s Kitchen foodservice section, produced by deputy group editor Abbie Westra, is a regional finalist.

And marking the first time the magazine has been honored by ASBPE, the cover image of Convenience Store ProductsMarch/April 2015 issue is a regional finalist in the category of front cover illustration.

“What’s really fun and rewarding about these awards is it speaks to who we are and how we continue to evolve to ensure our magazines—CSP and Convenience Store Products—remain extremely relevant in the lives of our retailers and suppliers,” said Mitch Morrison, Winsight vice president and convenience group editor.

“Over the past two years, we have made major investments in dramatically upgrading the look and feel of our publications and creating monthly pillars of our industry’s most important categories. We’ve also invested in more original, exclusive industry research. That ASBPE is recognizing us across design, edit and research reflects to the passion and dedication of our editorial, sales, marketing and production teams.”

Winsight sister magazines FoodService Director and Restaurant Business also are nominated for Azbees. FoodService Director is up for both regional and national awards in the categories of original research and opening page/spread—illustration. Restaurant Business again is nominated in the most prestigious category, magazine of the year, which it won in 2015. It also is a national and regional finalist in magazine design, and a regional finalist for front cover photo and group profile.

Last year, CSPtook home three awards in both regional and national categories, and Restaurant Business won magazine of the year.
