Buc-ee’s—the large-format convenience-store chain known for its huge number of fueling positions; its jerky, fudge and “Beaver Nuggets”; its clean restrooms; and its beaver mascot—is headed to Wisconsin.

The location would be far outside the chain’s traditional geographic footprint. The Lake Jackson, Texas, company, with 44 stores in Texas and the throughout the South, plans to open the new location in DeForest, Wisconsin, just north of Madison, according to multiple media reports citing a proposal that went before the DeForest Planning and Zoning Commission on Feb. 28.

The proposal includes a 23-acre site with a 73,400-square-foot building located near the center of the site, with its front towards Highway I and west of Interstate 39-90-94. It will have 120 fueling positions under two large canopies and 20 dedicated electric-vehicle (EV) charging spaces, as well as 613 parking spaces, including six designated as large-vehicle parking spaces and 19 handicapped accessible spaces.

  • Buc-ee's is No. 157 on CSP’s 2022 Top 202 ranking of U.S. convenience-store chains by company-owned store count.

Since beginning its multi-state expansion in 2019, Buc-ee’s has opened travel centers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Buc-ee’s would not confirm for CSP its plans to open a store in Wisconsin.
