Buc-ee’s, Sheetz, QuikTrip, Wawa and GetGo were the top performers in the convenience-store category in Newsweek’s America’s Best Retailers 2025 list, released on Monday.
Newsweek partnered with global data and business intelligence platform Statista to identify the retail elite, using results from an independent survey of participants who had made purchases, used services, or gathered information about products or services within the past three years.
The final assessment and rankings were based on survey respondents’ likelihood to recommend the retailer, as well as five evaluation criteria: products, customer service, atmosphere, accessibility and store layout.
Lake Jackson, Texas-based Buc-ee’s topped the convenience-store category with a score of 92.78, followed by Altoona, Pennsylvania-based Sheetz (90.73); Tulsa, Oklahoma-based QuikTrip (90.44); Wawa, Pennsylvania-based Wawa (89.71); and GetGo Café + Market (89.16), which was owned by Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania-based supermarket chain Giant Eagle before being sold to Laval, Quebec-based Alimentation Couche-Tard in June.
Founded in 1982, Buc-ee’s is known for its large number of fueling positions, clean bathrooms, food, snacks, apparel and a wide range of other merchandise. As of Jan. 1, it had 52 stores. The Texas retailer has expended to new states in 2025, adding travel centers in Virginia, Mississippi and Arkansas.
The top five supermarkets were Publix, Wegmans, Kroger, Giant Eagle and Safeway.
