C-Store Hiring Initiatives Continue
By Greg Lindenberg on Apr. 29, 2022CHICAGO — Due to staffing issues created or exacerbated by the pandemic, many convenience-store companies are hosting hiring events or offering more employment opportunities beyond traditional levels. 7‑Eleven Inc., Speedway and Stripes just announced a major National Hiring Event on May 3 across more than 13,000 U.S. locations, hoping to fill 60,000 jobs, the company said.

Pilot
Pilot Co. is aiming to add 10,000 new team members with jobs available across its family of brands. On May 3, Pilot is hosting a Hiring Day event at its company-operated travel centers and restaurants in the United States and Canada to prepare for the summer travel season.
Part-time and full-time team members receive company perks and benefits, including a fuel discount and free meals.
The Hiring Day event will include in-person opportunities, featuring on-the-spot interviews at more than 670 participating Pilot Flying J travel centers, One9 Fuel Network locations and on-premises quick-service restaurants (QSRs).
Open positions include full-time and part-time hourly and leadership roles in retail, foodservice and facilities; Class-A CDL company drivers to transport fuel and diesel exhaust fluid (DEF); corporate positions in technology, finance, human resources, recruiting, marketing, guest services and more at the Knoxville Sales and Support Center headquarters, offices in Dallas and Houston, and a new IT center of excellence in Atlanta.

Knoxville, Tenn.-based Pilot offers a benefit package including weekly pay, free daily meal, low-cost health plans, tuition assistance, training program, career advancement and growth, paid time off, paid parental leave, 401(k), discounts at national retailers and more. Pilot is also investing more in culture and recognition programs for its team members, including onboarding and training programs, wellness with a focus on mental well-being and adding new perks and discounts to the company’s total rewards benefit package. The company recently introduced a new fuel discount program for all team members to save at the pump at company-owned stores in North America.

The Pilot Flying J Travel Center network includes more than 750 locations in 44 states and five Canadian provinces with more than 790 restaurants, 75,000 truck parking spaces, 5,300 deluxe showers, 6,200 diesel lanes and offers truck maintenance and tire service with Southern Tire Mart at Pilot Flying J. The One9 Fuel Network connects a variety of fueling locations to provide smaller fleets and independent professional drivers with everyday value, convenience, credit and perks.
Royal Farms
Royal Farms is ramping up a large-scale hiring effort that aims to bring on more than 2,000 new employees over the span of the next three months, the Baltimore-based chain has announced.
Associates hired in full-time and part-time positions can receive competitive pay (as much as $17.50 an hour), medical, dental and vision insurance, a 401 (k)-retirement plan, paid vacation for full-time employees and an employee discount program for food. Hourly management positions can earn up to $23 an hour.
The company has increased starting wages for all store employees an average of 20% over the last 18 months and is now offering eligible employees vacation time after only six months of service. Royal Farms also recently introduced a new benefit for all employees called Earned Wage Access, which allows any active employee access to their earned wages daily.

Royal Farms has more than 240 locations in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Love’s
Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores held a two-day National Hiring Event on March 30 and 31 at more than 580 Love’s stores across the country, with a goal of hiring 2,000 team members.
The initiative also sought to hire employees for the company’s Speedco, Love’s Truck Care retread centers, hotels and Oklahoma City call center locations.
“Love’s takes care of its team members, and they, in turn take care of customers, so this is an important event for us,” said Roger Ahuja, executive vice president of operations for Love’s. “Our organization is a fantastic place for someone to start their career and develop it into the one they’ve always wanted.
