Casey’s General Stores is expanding its goodstop sub-brand in Iowa, where it first opened a location in 2023 in Eldora.

“Goodstop by Casey’s” locations, launched in fiscal 2021, are designed for smaller-footprint stores that aren’t a fit for the convenience-store chain’s signature foodservice offering. Many of the locations are in markets that coincide with recent Casey’s acquisitions.

The second and third Iowa goodstop convenience stores, which recently opened, are at 1203 Guthrie St., De Soto, and 1905 SE 37th St., Grimes.

“We’re excited to be operating these stores in De Soto, Eldora and Grimes,” Katie Petru, Casey’s director of communications and community at Casey’s, told CSP. “Our goodstop locations are part of the Casey’s family and offer guests their favorite snacks, drinks, nicotine products and other on-the-go needs.”

Casey’s now has 66 goodstop stores in 11 states: Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Tennessee, Petru said.

“Goodstop locations offer a convenient stop for people to get everything they need to keep their day moving,” Petru said. “Our guests can join and use Casey’s Rewards to earn points and redeem great offers at goodstop and Casey’s stores.”

The goodstop brand gives Casey’s flexibility in it store portfolio to own and operate stores that do not include the full prepared food and dispensed beverage offering of a Casey’s, Petru said.

The De Soto and Eldora stores are former Kum & Go locations that Casey’s acquired from Salt Lake City-based Maverik, Petru said, adding that Casey’s is in the last year of a three-year plan to add about 500 locations.

Casey’s acquisitions of 94 Bucky’s stations from Buchanan Energy, Omaha, Nebraska, 49 Circle K c-stores from Alimentation Couche-Tard, Laval, Quebec, and 40 c-stores from Pilot, Knoxville, Tennessee, helped create the opportunity to roll out goodstop, as many of the acquired sites weren’t right to become Casey’s stores, CSP reported in 2022.

Ankeny, Iowa-based Casey’s has about 2,900 convenience stores in 20 states. It is the third-largest c-store retailer and the fifth-largest pizza chain in the United States. In fiscal 2025, Casey’s built or acquired 270 stores, a record for the company. The majority came via Casey’s November 2024 acquisition of 198 CEFCO stores from Fikes Wholesale.
