CITGO Stations Debut ‘Spirit Pumps’

Red Sox campaign allows customers to fuel up at pumps designated for charity

BOSTON -- CITGO Petroleum Corp., with partners SEI Fuels, H.A. Mapes, Global Partners and Tradewinds, will help the Red Sox Foundation through the installation of Red Sox-branded gas pumps at multiple CITGO gas stations throughout Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Maine.

Through October, customers can stop by the designated locations to fill up their tanks at the specially branded “Spirit Pump,” and CITGO will donate a portion of their fuel purchase directly to the Red Sox Foundation. In addition to the Red Sox Spirit Pumps, customers can look for “Fuel Change” donation boxes or receive a limited-edition Red Sox Foundation baseball mobile at the register by donating $1 or $5 to support the organization.

“We greatly appreciate the Red Sox pride and support that CITGO and its marketers are providing at their stations throughout New England,” said Gena Borson, executive director of the Red Sox Foundation. “Not only are the CITGO Red Sox Foundation Spirit Pumps helping to fuel our enrichment programs and activities at the foundation, but they are also encouraging local residents to get involved and share the responsibility for improving our communities.”

The official team charity of the Boston Red Sox, the Red Sox Foundation has distributed more than $86 million to support programs serving children and families across New England.

CITGO marketers in Massachusetts own and operate nearly 120 CITGO locations.

CITGO, based in Houston, is a refiner, transporter and marketer of transportation fuels, lubricants, petrochemicals and other industrial products. The company is owned by CITGO Holding Inc., an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of Petróleos de Venezuela SA, the national oil company of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
