Crystal Maggelet is the new CEO and “chief adventure guide” of Salt Lake City-based Maverik.

“As beloved c-store brand Maverik—Adventure’s First Stop approaches the one-year anniversary of the close of its acquisition of Kum & Go this August, Crystal Maggelet has announced her decision to step into the long-term role of CEO and chief adventure guide,” according to a statement Maverik shared with CSP.

“Building upon Maverik’s former CEO Chuck Maggelet’s wins for the brand during his more than seven-year tenure, Crystal will bring a renewed focus on people, philanthropy and culture to her leadership of nearly 15,000 team members across the family-owned c-store network, now serving customers at over 830 stores in 20 states from the Midwest to the West Coast and growing.”

On May 1, Chuck Maggelet retired as CEO and chief adventure guide at Maverik, and Crystal Maggelet, chairman and CEO of Maverik’s parent company FJ Management, stepped into the CEO role on an interim basis, the couple announced in a YouTube video posted at that time.

In the video, Crystal Maggelet also said the two are getting divorced, and that she will take over leadership of the chain while the company conducts a search for a permanent CEO.

Now, according to the statement, Crystal Maggelet will “continue to amplify Maverik’s core values of being a great place to work, great operator for its customers and a great growth company. She is currently leading the charge to deliver customers an elevated, differentiated and adventurous c-store experience through the continued growth and integration of Maverik and Kum & Go brands’ fuel, foodservice and in-store product offerings.”

The statement concluded, “Crystal Maggelet’s impressive professional background includes extensive experience with both the Maverik brand and with Maverik’s parent company, FJ Management Inc., where she remains the CEO and chairwoman. She founded Crystal Inn Hotel & Suites in 1993 prior to stepping into the CEO role at Flying J (later rebranded to FJ Management) in December 2008. In 2018, she was named the national Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year for Family Business.”
