CST Brands Opening New Distribution Center

Moving in March to larger facility that will eventually become HQ

SAN ANTONIO --CST Brands Inc. has announced that it will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony in March to celebrate the opening of a new regional distribution center in San Antonio to serve its Corner Store convenience store network.

The company, based in San Antonio, paid $43 million to acquire a 559,258-square-foot facility that eventually will become the retailer's corporate headquarters, according to a report in The San Antonio Express-News.

The facility consists of a two-story, 146,180-square-foot office building and a 413,078-square-foot distribution building on about 92 acres, the report said.

The company's headquarters currently is in 83,000 square feet leased from Valero Energy Corp., which last year spun off CST Brands as a separate publicly traded company. It has outgrown a 130,000-square-foot leased distribution center in Schertz, Texas, company spokesperson Hal Adams told the newspaper.

That facility supplies more than 580 of its stores, said the report; there are about 1,900 stores in the chain.

The deal closed July 31, and CST Brands expects to move officially by March 31, the Express-News said.

CST Brands is one of the largest independent retailers of motor fuels and convenience merchandise in North America. It has nearly 1,900 locations throughout the southwestern United States, New York and eastern Canada.

In the United States, CST's Corner Stores sell fuel and products such as Fresh Choices baked and packaged goods, U Force energy and sport drinks, Cibolo Mountain coffee, FC Soda and Flavors2Go fountain drinks. In Canada, CST is the exclusive provider of Ultramar fuel and its Dépanneur du Coin and Corner Stores sell signature Transit Café coffee and pastries.

CST Brands also is the parent company of CrossAmerica GP LLC, the general partner of CrossAmerica Partners LLC. Together they own the Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes chain of convenience stores in New York. CrossAmerica owns the Freedom Valu chain of convenience stores in the Upper Midwest, which it will sell to CST Brands later this year.

Allentown, Pa.-based CrossAmerica Partners is a leading wholesale distributor of motor fuels and owner and lessee of real estate used in the retail distribution of motor fuels. Formed in 2012, it distributes fuel to more than 1,100 locations and owns or leases more than 625 sites in 16 states.
