Family Express Corp. is erecting its first modularized convenience-store prototype in Ligonier, Indiana. The Valparaiso, Indiana-based c-store retailer is in the process of executing $100 million in the development of new-to-industry (NTI) stores, with several starting this spring throughout Indiana. The company expects to meet this “aggressive” new development schedule with its new prototype masonry buildings, which it said can be prefabricated and assembled in a matter of a few days.

The new construction method will deliver approximately 7,200-square-foot masonry buildings with a full kitchen and car wash.

“Our objective is to facilitate the rapid development of our company and to remedy, to the extent possible, weather-related delays that are typical in the upper Midwest,” said Gus Olympidis, president and CEO of Family Express Corp.

The company has already prefabricated several Family Express convenience stores it is ready to deliver and erect in multiple locations.

“The New FE Prototype is using various masonry materials and Nichiha exterior finishes in an effort to deliver an upscale and contemporary feel,” said Peter Andreou, vice president of development for Family Express.

  • Family Express is No. 84 on CSP's 2024 Top 202 ranking of convenience-store chains by size.
