Kwik Trip is close to calling North Dakota its seventh state—and will brand stores there Kwik Star.

The La Crosse, Wisconsin-based convenience-store chain plans to open Nov. 20 at 2530 12th Ave S. in Fargo, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house Dec. 17, Ben Leibl, Kwik Trip spokesperson, told CSP

The second store, which will include a car wash, is scheduled to open Dec. 11 at 4480 Calico Dr. S., Fargo. There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house Dec. 17.

The story on the opening dates first appeared on the Fargo-based website Inforum.com.

Each location will be Kwik Trip’s G3 builds, meaning they will have a modern look and be about 9,100 square feet, Leibl told CSP in April.

Fargo has more than 133,000 people and is the largest city in North Dakota, the Peace Garden State. The first South Dakota store opened Sept. 21, 2023, in Brandon.

Kwik Trip also will be opening three locations, branded Kwik Trip, across the state line in Minnesota:

  • 1409 Main Ave. S.E., in Moorhead, opening Oct. 9 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house Oct. 30
  • 1100 30th Ave. S., in Moorhead, opening Oct. 23 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house Oct. 30
  • 1200 Center Ave. W., Dilworth, opening Nov. 6 with a ribbon-cutting Dec. 17

The Dilworth store was damaged by a recent windstorm, apparently to wooden structural elements, Inforum.com reported.

Leibl told Inforum.com that Kwik Trip is getting the project back on schedule and that the store is expected to meet the November scheduled opening date.

Kwik Trip has nearly 900 locations and is one of the biggest independently held c-store chains in the country. It has locations in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin under the Kwik Trip banner and stores in Illinois, Iowa and South Dakota under the Kwik Star name. Kwik Trip produces more than 80% of the products sold in its stores, supplied by its own bakery, commissary, dairy and distribution center.
