The Fresh Market has opened its first-ever Chicago grocery store in a location previously occupied by a Dom’s Kitchen and Market.
The 17,000-square-foot store, at 2730 N. Halstead St. in the city’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, is taking over a location that previously hosted one of two Chicago Dom’s until the store’s abrupt closure on April 23, when its partner brand, urban convenience-store chain Foxtrot, closed all 33 of its stores in Chicago, Washington, D.C., and Dallas and Austin, Texas, with no notice to employees.Outfox Hospitality, parent company of Foxtrot and small-format grocer Dom’s Kitchen & Market, filed for bankruptcy in May.
Several of the Foxtrot locations have since reopened after Further Point Enterprises, an investment firm, bought bankrupt Foxtrot’s assets at an auction. Foxtrot’s founder Mike LaVitola has said it will reopen at least four stores in Chicago. LaVitola was among CSP’s Indie Innovators in 2018 and a Power 20 executive in 2021.

The new Fresh Market store is open seven days a week, with operating hours from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The coffee window, unique to this location, opens at 6 a.m. Guests can also shop online and enjoy curbside pickup or home delivery through The Fresh Market’s website and mobile app.
The new store offers smashed burgers crafted from premium cuts of brisket, short rib and chuck; all-beef New York-style hot dogs crafted from pasture-raised beef sourced from family farms; and Neapolitan-style pizza, made with our artisanal crust, sauce comprised of Italian-grown crushed tomatoes and salt, and topped with BelGioioso mozzarella cheese. It also offers hummus bowls with a choice of salmon, chicken or falafel, and a variety of scooping salads, with an olive bar and soup station.
The Fresh Market is pumping up the marketing around the new Chicago store. Celebrity chef Carla Hall will be at the store sampling her newest dessert, Sweet Heritage Butter Tarts. There will also be a Harry Potter-themed contest where customers will have a chance to win four tickets to a performance of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the James M. Nederlander Theatre in Chicago.
The store will be offering special deals and promotions throughout the coming weeks in celebration of the grand opening.
The Greensboro, North Carolina-based grocery chain also announced that the new Lincoln Park store will donate $2,000 to the Greater Chicago Food Depository and partner with the organization to provide weekly food donations, becoming the second Fresh Market store to donate to local food banks regularly.
This newest location marks The Fresh Market’s fourth store in Illinois and its 163rd nationwide. The chain operates in 22 states.
