Convenience-store veteran Furnell Mackey (pictured left) is now director of operations in the truckstop division at Lawrenceville Georgia-based Majors Management, according to his LinkedIn page.
Mackey, who has more than 30 years of experience in field operations, left Temple, Texas-based CEFCO Convenience Stores this month after nearly seven years. He was a food and beverage category manager. Mackey is a dispensed beverages (large chain) finalist in CSP’s2025 Category Manager of the Year Awards.
‘I aim to enhance operational efficiency across the truckstop division.’
On Nov. 1, Casey’s completed the $1.145 billion acquisition of Temple, Texas-based Fikes Wholesale Inc., acquiring 198 CEFCO c-stores. The acquisition gives the retailer 148 additional locations in Texas, a highly strategic market for Casey’s, as well as 50 stores in the Southeast, including 27 in Alabama, 13 in Florida and 10 in Mississippi.
Mackey told CSP that before the acquisition by Casey’s, he oversaw all beverage categories, a task that at Casey’s is now divided among 11 individuals.
“While the transition was a major shift, I found that the level of communication surrounding my role at Casey’s was less than ideal, which prompted me to seek new opportunities,” he said.
Majors Management is No. 30 on CSP’s 2024 Top 202 ranking of U.S. convenience-store chains by store count. CEFCO is No. 37.
“Joining Major Management represents an exciting new chapter in my career,” Mackey said, adding that he made the move to Majors Management for the opportunity to have a direct impact on operations and to be part of a team committed to innovation and growth in the convenience store and truckstop industry. This role gives me the chance to apply my experience in a more focused and specialized way, and I’m confident that we will achieve great things together.”
The focus of Mackey’s role will be to drive growth in the truck stop division, which he said he thinks has significant potential.
“I’m eager to take on this challenge, utilizing my extensive background in category management and field operations to streamline processes, improve operational efficiency and ultimately support the company’s long-term goals,” he said.
Mackey said he want to accomplish several key objectives.
“First and foremost, I aim to enhance operational efficiency across the truckstop division, ensuring that we deliver exceptional service and an outstanding customer experience,” he said. “I believe that by optimizing day-to-day operations and focusing on consistent quality, we can strengthen the reputation of Major Management in the marketplace.”
‘I also look forward to collaborating with the team to foster a culture of continuous improvement and ensure that we are always adapting to the evolving needs of the industry.’
Mackey also said he’s excited about the opportunity to drive innovation in the division. Whether it’s improving inventory management, enhancing product offerings or exploring new revenue streams, Mackey said he sees “plenty of opportunities to introduce creative solutions that will drive profitability and position us for long-term success. I also look forward to collaborating with the team to foster a culture of continuous improvement and ensure that we are always adapting to the evolving needs of the industry.”
Finally, Mackey said he is eager “to take a more hands-on approach in shaping the strategic direction of the truckstop division, working closely with the leadership team to identify growth opportunities, expand our reach and scale operations. I’m committed to ensuring that Major Management not only meets but exceeds its operational and financial goals.”
Prior to CEFCO, Mackey was director of operations at LA Truck Stop and Gaming, Saint Rose, Louisiana, for about four and one-half years. Before that, he was a district manager at Murphy USA, El Dorado, Arkansas.
His new title on his LinkedIn page reads: “Director of Operations | Sales Management, P&L Management.”
Mackey, pictured above with Zach Treinen of Stinker Stores at CSP’s 2024 C-Store Foodservice Forum in June 2024, earned an MBA from Western Governors University in Millcreek, Utah. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
