HARRISBURG, N.C. -- Grocery store chain Harris Teeter welcomed shoppers to its Harrisburg, N.C., location on Dec. 9, with the grand opening and ribbon cutting for the new supermarket and fuel center.
The store opening includes a seven-pump Harris Teeter Fuel Center. This is the first Harris Teeter Fuel Center in North Carolina; the company currently operates two other fuel centers in South Carolina.
The grocer also has plans underway to open another gas station in Charlotte, N.C.’s Steel Creek area in the spring, according to property records cited by The Charlotte Observer.
Harris Teeter, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Kroger Co., was co-founded in 1960 by North Carolina grocers W.T. Harris and Willis Teeter. Harris Teeter operates over 230 stores and two fuel centers in seven states and the District of Columbia.
In addition to its retail stores, Harris Teeter also owns grocery, frozen food and perishable distribution centers in Greensboro, N.C., and Indian Trail, N.C., as well as a dairy in High Point, N.C.
Harris Teeter is based in Matthews, N.C., and has approximately 28,000 associates.
