DES MOINES, Iowa — Kum & Go will be entering the state of Michigan with a set of convenience stores in the Grand Rapids area, which the retailer expects to open in 2022.
This marks the second expansion announcement this year for the Des Moines, Iowa-based company, which recently revealed plans to expand to Utah in 2022. The company has a presence across the Midwest and West, with more than 400 stores in 11 states.
“We are excited to bring the Kum & Go brand to our 13th state. Grand Rapids is an amazing community,” said Kum & Go CEO Tanner Krause, one of CSP’s2021 Power 20. “Kum & Go will create quality jobs, give back to and help develop the community and make days better for a whole new set of customers. We think Grand Rapids and Kum & Go are a great match.”
Kum & Go stores focus on fresh food in a well-lit environment with upscale and uncluttered aisles, it said. Stores feature made-to-order sandwiches, pizza and baked goods, along with beverages, snacks and a selection of healthy options. They also carry health aids, phone accessories and craft beers and wines.
“Kum & Go is looking forward to entering another new state this year with this expansion into Michigan and pushing our footprint further east,” said Niki Mason, senior vice president of store development. “We love Grand Rapids and see plenty of opportunity for growth beyond.”
