La Crosse, Wisconsin-based Kwik Trip is hiring about 400 employees to work at the distribution center it is building in DeForest, Wisconsin, outside Madison.

Positions include CDL drivers, with starting wages around $92,000 yearly, according to Spectrum News 1, adding that Kwik Trip is offering a $5,000 sign-on bonus and paid on-the-job training available for those 18 and older.

In addition, the company gives 40% of pre-tax profits back to its employees, according to the company’s website. The profit-sharing bonus ranges from 8% to 12% of each coworker’s gross annual wages, depending on company profitability.

“With our consistent growth in the number of stores, we will continue to need more coworkers,” Kwik Trip spokesperson Ben Leibl told CSP. “Our new distribution center is an exciting development for Kwik Trip, and we are looking forward to adding roughly 400 new coworkers to our team as we look to service around 350 stores in southeast Wisconsin and in Illinois as well from this new distribution center”

  • Kwik Trip is No. 11 on CSP’s 2024 Top 202 ranking of U.S. convenience-store chains by store count.

Kwik Trip paid $14.1 million for the 151 acres of farmland north of Madison, the state capital, at the southwest quadrant of the intersection of Highways 51 and 19, the Wisconsin State Journal reported in March.

Kwik Trip in March was discussing with the village using 60 of those acres for a new distribution center, with the other 91 acres being used for development in the future, according to DeForest Administrator Bill Chang, the State Journal reported at the time.

The company expects the distribution center to open in fall 2025 and to handle 70 routes daily, according to Spectrum News 1.

Kwik Trip operates in Wisconsin, Minnesota and northern Michigan under the Kwik Trip name, and in Iowa, Illinois and South Dakota under the Kwik Star banner. The 2024 USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards recently named Kwik Trip the best gas station brand in the United States for the fifth year in a row. The family-owned company has about 850 locations and is one of the biggest independently held c-store chains in the country.
