Kwik Trip soon will be breaking ground on new convenience stores in North Dakota, its seventh state, and branding them as Kwik Star.

“We will be opening two stores in Fargo, North Dakota, this year,” Ben Leibl, spokesperson for La Crosse, Wisconsin-based Kwik Trip, told CSP. “I don’t have locations for either one. Both of them will be our G3 builds, which means they will have a modern look to them and will be roughly 9,100 square feet.”

  • Kwik Trip is No. 11 on CSP’s 2025 Top 40 Update to the 2024 Top 202 ranking of U.S. c-store chains by store count. Watch for the full 2025 Top 202 ranking in the June issue of CSP magazine and in CSP Daily News.

Construction on the first store will start June 16 and has a tentative completion date of Nov. 14, Leibl said. The second store, which will include a car wash, will begin construction June 30 with a tentative completion date of Dec 5.

“All of these dates are weather dependent for us to have them completed by,” Leibl said.

Fargo has more than 133,000 people and is the largest city in North Dakota. The first South Dakota store opened Sept. 21, 2023, in Brandon.

Kwik Trip has nearly 900 locations and is one of the biggest independently held c-store chains in the country. It has locations in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin under the Kwik Trip banner and stores in Illinois, Iowa and South Dakota under the Kwik Star name. Kwik Trip produces more than 80% of the products sold in its stores, supplied by its own bakery, commissary, dairy and distribution center.
