TEMPLE, Texas -- McLane Co. Inc. said that after 24 years of dedicated service, Terry McElroy, president of McLane Grocery Distribution, has decided to retire effective February 2006.
McElroy joined McLane in 1981 as vice president of distribution. Grady Rosier, president and CEO of McLane, said, "I am proud to have worked with him over the years and can say with heartfelt sincerity, 'Thank you for a job well done!' He has clearly embodied the company's beliefs and values in his daily life at McLane. His strong presence and leadership will be missed."[image-nocss]
Without question, McElroy has been one of the primary architects in leading McLane from a small central Texas wholesaler to the $24 billion business it is today. His vision, work ethic, strong leadership and wisdom have propelled the growth and development of the grocery distribution business at McLane, said the company.
McElroy has cultivated many business relationships and friendships with McLane teammates, customers, vendors and other associates and his legacy will remain through the many individuals he has assisted, mentored and influenced during their careers at McLane, the company added.
With the announcement of McElroy's retirement, McLane also announced that Mike Youngblood, current president of McLane Foodservice Distribution, has accepted the position of president of McLane Grocery Distribution.
Youngblood's career with McLane began at the company's Western Division in Longmont, Co., in 1982 as vice president of distribution. Since then, he has held leadership positions at McLane Southeast in Dothan, Ala., McLane Southern in Brookhaven, Miss., and McLane Mid Atlantic in Falmouth, Va. He served as a director in the logistics department at the McLane home office and held the position of regional vice president of the Atlantic Region for McLane Grocery Distribution from 1997 to 2000.
Most recently, Youngblood has served as the president of McLane Foodservice Distribution since its acquisition in December 2000. He has provided great leadership in assimilating the McLane culture into the foodservice business unit, said the company.
Rosier said of Youngblood, "I am confident that Mike will bring the same strong work ethic, vision and leadership to the Grocery Distribution business unit."
Youngblood will continue to provide leadership to McLane Foodservice while transitioning into his new role. McLane said it expects to announce a new president for the Foodservice Distribution business soon.
Temple, Texas-based McLane provides distribution services throughout the United States, delivering food and nonfood products to more than 50,000 customer locations, including the convenience store, drug store, mass merchandise, quick-service restaurant and movie theater industries. It operates 19 grocery distribution divisions and 18 foodservice distribution centers as well as an industry specific software company. McLane is a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
