EL DORADO, Ark. — Murphy USA Inc. reported net income of $219.5 million for the third quarter of 2022, up from the $104 million in net income for the same quarter in 2021.

“Third quarter results showcased the resiliency and attractiveness of our everyday low price model, which translated into strong fuel volume growth and same-store merchandise growth,” Murphy President and CEO Andrew Clyde said in an Oct. 26 news release announcing the results. “Murphy USA continues to provide value to our customers, and they are rewarding us with their loyalty, resulting in more frequent trips and larger baskets. Performance in categories attached to fuel trips has maintained strength, as October per-store volumes are running about 10% higher than the prior year.”

Total retail gallons for the El Dorado, Ark.-based chain were up 13.2% to 1.2 billion gallons in the third quarter, compared to the same quarter the year prior. Merchandise contribution dollars were up nearly 10% at $205.7 million, the company reported.

In food and beverage contribution, margin increased 3.9% in quarter three from the prior-year period, and sales dollars were up 9.4%.

There are 19 new Murphy Express stores, five new QuickChek stores and 12 raze-and-rebuild Murphy USA stores currently under construction, the chain said.

“We remain committed to our mission of providing affordable gas, convenience products and food and beverage offers to customers across our growing network and expect our advantaged business model to continue generating strong results into 2023,” Clyde said.

El Dorado, Ark.-based Murphy USA operates gas stations in 27 states primarily in the Southwest, Southeast, Midwest and Northeast. Most of Murphy USA's sites are located adjacent to Walmart stores.
