Murphy USA will launch a refreshed store design in the second half of the year.
The convenience-store chain’s President and CEO Mindy West gave a presentation March 2 at the 47th Annual Raymond James Institutional Investors Conference. In a recording of the presentation, West said the new store will have modern branding with a bright color scheme, a cleaner look inside and outside the store, and enhanced internal and external lighting and signage.
“We think these new stores are going to look great. We think this is really going to resonate with our customer, and the best part of the program is, it’s essentially cost neutral,” West said.
Murphy USA opened 51 new-to-industry convenience stores in 2025. In 2026, it had already opened two stores as of the company’s earnings call in February, and it had another 18 under construction. It plans to open about 50 new stores in 2026 and complete up to 30 raze and rebuilds.
West shared with investors how Murphy USA’s new-to-industry stores opened from 2021 to 2023 have paid off.

“These stores are delivering higher merchandise dollars, higher fuel contribution—they do come with higher operating expenses, but they also come with higher EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization),” she said. “You can see the returns grow as the store ramps to maturity.”
As Murphy builds new stores, they also are growing the average square footage of the stores. The ones from the 2021-2023 period were all 2,800 square feet, she said. The extra square footage is going to the center store.
“So it’s diversifying our mix, it’s broadening the offer to our customers and increasing our contribution,” she said.
El Dorado, Arkansas-based Murphy USA had a total of 1,800 stores as of Dec. 31, 2025—1,649 Murphy USA and Murphy Express stores, and 151 QuickChek stores.
