Newest Rutter's Store Opens in York Township

Fast-growing retailer also raised $91,000 through golf outing

YORK, Pa. -- Rutter's Farm Stores will open its newest convenience store today in York Township, York County, Pa. The convenience retailer was also named among the fastest-growing companies in central Pennsylvania.

With an international award-winning design, the new 24-hour store features Rutter's latest foodservice offerings, including custom stir-fry, fajitas and fresh-baked bread. Customers can design their own "oriental bowls" by choosing among chicken, beef and pork; fried rice, white rice, noodles and veggies; and various toppings and dressings. Customers can mix and match ingredients [image-nocss] to create custom steak, chicken and veggie fajitas. Sub and cibatta rolls come in a total of seven varieties and are available for sandwiches or for individual retail purchase.

Other store amenities include a premium-coffee island, fresh-brewed teas and iced coffee, seating for 12, restrooms and a surcharge-free M&T Bank ATM. Outside, there are 16 fueling positions and an automatic car wash.

The store design includes open ceilings, floor and wall tiles, and bathrooms with floating ceilings, music and other upscale accents. The design is environmentally friendly, including a white roof that will keep the building cooler while reducing energy demand.

Rutter's is in the midst of the most ambitious growth plans in its 40-year history. The company will invest more than $55 million this year to build 10 stores and 11 car washes, which will add 350 new jobs and more than $4.5 million in annual wages and benefits to the area economy, it said.

Meanwhile, for the second year in a row, Rutter's has ranked among the "Top 50 Fastest Growing Companies" in central Pennsylvania. Rutter's is No. 16 on this year's list, which appeared in the October 3 issue of the Central Penn Business Journal. Rutter's posted a 37.72% increase in revenue over a two-year period. It was 10th in 2007.

Meanwhile, parent company Rutter's Holdings also recently earned a top ranking from the Central Penn Business Journal. It was No. 6 in the 2008 list of the Top 100 Privately Held Companies in the region, with 2007 revenue of $440 million.

Rutter's recently donated $36,500 to the Children's Home of York for a kitchen renovation at its George Street Program group home. The contribution represents a portion of the proceeds from the 6th Annual Rutter's Children's Charities golf outing, held May 5-6 at Regents' Glen Golf Course. The golf outing raised more than $91,000 and drew 275 participants, both all-time highs for the event.

Family-owned and third-generation managed, York, Pa.-based Rutter's operates 54 c-stores in York, Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin and Lancaster counties. Rutter's companies are comprised of Rutter's Farm Stores, Rutter's Dairy and M&G Realty.
