QuikTrip is installing “anti-loitering domes” at a small number of stores in the Tulsa, Oklahoma, market, according to a report by KJRH-TV.

The pilot program features 3D-printed half-domes on the exterior wall aimed to curb an “increase in loitering,” Aisha Jefferson, corporate communications manager for the Tulsa-based retailer, told the news channel.

“In an effort to provide the highest quality products and service, QuikTrip is continuously looking for and deploying innovative solutions to create an in-store experience that maintains the safety and wellbeing of our customers and employees—a commitment and responsibility we take very seriously, Jefferson said in a statement.

Discouraging loitering isn’t the only issue convenience-store chains face. Safety is also weighing heavily on small retailers.

Last month, QuikTrip shutteredits gas-less Atlanta convenience store on Peachtree Street because of crime concerns.

It’s critically important to us that every location across our 1,000-plus store footprint nationwide delivers the in-store experience that QT customers have come to know, love, and expect, Jefferson said.

Convenience stores are also tackling retail theft. In May, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul visited with Bolla Market President and CEO Harry Singh at the convenience-store chain’s Lindenhurst location to announce a new plan to fight retail theft in New York. The two discussed new landmark protections against organized retail theft included in the state's fiscal-year 2025 Enacted Budget.
