QuikTrip on Thursday opened two more stores featuring its fourth-generation (“Gen 4”) format, which includes an updated layout and design.

The nearly 6,300-square-foot stores are in Wichita, Kansas, at 135th St. W., and Joplin, Missouri, at 3214 S. Main St. The first Gen 4 store opened on April 16 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

The Tulsa, Oklahoma-based retailer said the Gen 4 concept was developed over three years based on input from employees across operations, store development, foodservice and real estate, as well as customer feedback.

“For nearly 70 years, QuikTrip’s success has been driven by the people who work in our stores and support them behind the scenes,” said Aisha Jefferson, QuikTrip corporate communications manager. “Gen 4 shows what happens when you design around the people who know our customers best and give them the tools to serve them even better.”

Key features include a glass vestibule, expanded storefront windows, eight individual, family-friendly restrooms and four ADA-compliant units with baby changing stations, the company said. The layout also doubles kitchen capacity to support QT Kitchens’ made-to-order food program, the company said.

“QT has never been about doing something new just to say we did it,” said Kelli Ostmeyer, QuikTrip vice president of store design and projects. “Gen 4 is about getting it right—and staying flexible so we can keep delivering the excellent experience our customers expect.”

New travel centers are also contributing to the retailer’s unit growth. On Friday, QuikTrip continued its Chicagoland growth with a new Minooka travel center. It is located along Interstate 80 at Exit 122 at 501 N. Ridge Road.

The travel center is QuikTrip’s 20th location in Illinois.
