The retailer is in the midst of the most ambitious growth plans in its 40-year history. The company is investing more than $55 million this year to build 10 stores and 11 car washes, which will [image-nocss] add 350 new jobs, and more than $4.5 million in annual wages and benefits, to the central Pennsylvania economy.
The 24-hour store, in Franklin County, features Rutter's latest foodservice offerings, including custom stir-fry, fajitas and fresh-baked bread. Customers can design their own "oriental bowls" and create custom steak, chicken and veggie fajitas. Fresh-baked sub and cibatta rolls come in seven varieties, available for sandwiches or for individual retail purchase.
A premium-coffee island, touchscreen ordering, seating for 12, "best-in-industry" restrooms, a surcharge-free M&T Bank ATM, 16 fueling positions and an automatic two-bay car wash are among the other store amenities.
The store features a national and international award-winning design, including open ceilings, extensive use of floor and wall tiles and bathrooms with floating ceilings, music and other upscale accents. The environmentally friendly design includes a white roof that will keep the building cooler while reducing energy demand.
Rutter's also is the first c-store chain in the country to offer customers plastic, glass and newsprint recycling at each of its stores, it said.
In other company news, Rutter's recently donated $25,000 to United Cerebral Palsy of South Central Pennsylvania for the purchase of equipment for its children's center in York. UCP of South Central Pennsylvania serves children and adults with disabilities and special needs in York, Adams, Franklin and Fulton counties. The chapter has offices in Hanover, York, New Oxford and Chambersburg.
The contribution to UCP represents a portion of the proceeds from the 6th Annual Rutter's Children's Charities golf outing, held May 5-6 at Regents' Glen Golf Course. The golf outing raised more than $91,000 and drew 275 participants, both all-time highs for the event.
Rutter's Farm Stores ranks among the Top 50 Fastest Growing Companies in central Pennsylvania, according to the Central Penn Business Journal. Rutter's is No. 16 on this year's list, posting a 37.72% increase in revenue over a two-year period. Rutter's Holdings Inc. was No. 6 on the newspaper's recent list of the Top 100 Privately Held Companies in the region, with 2007 revenue of $440 million.
Family-owned and third-generation managed, Rutter's operates 54 c-stores in York, Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin and Lancaster counties. Rutter's Dairy serves customers in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey and Delaware.
