YORK, Pa. – Rutter’s opened its 73rd convenience store, the company’s first in the state of Maryland, in Walkersville on Jan. 16.

“We are happy to announce expansion into our third state,” said Scott Hartman, president and CEO of Rutter’s. The York, Pa.-based chain operates 73 locations in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Maryland.

  • Rutter's is No. 101 in CSP's 2018 Top 202 ranking of c-store chains by number of company-owned retail outlets.

“Maryland is a natural progression for us in our growth plans,” Hartman said. “Actually, the Pennsylvania-Maryland line is a mere 19 miles from our corporate office. Walkersville is the first of seven locations currently planned for the Maryland market in the near future.”

The new 7,500-square-foot Rutter’s c-store employs 50 team members and operates 24 hours a day.

The Walkersville location provides 10 automobile fueling stations along with three dedicated high-speed truck diesel fueling stations with in-lane diesel exhaust fluid. It offers customers new fueling options including flex fuel and unleaded 15 fuel in addition to the standard regular, midgrade, premium and auto diesel.

The store features Rutter’s full restaurant with cafe seating for 30. The food and beverage menu offers breakfast 24/7 with items such as French toast sticks and build-your-own breakfast sandwiches, with more than 30 free toppings. The lunch and dinner menus offer Rutter’s signature specialties such as chicken pot pie, barbecue beef short ribs, battered cod sandwiches and the Route 30 burger. Coffee drinkers can order specialty lattes and cappuccinos or create their own coffee beverages at the extensive coffee bar.

The store also has free Wi-Fi, large restrooms and a complete convenience store with beverage coolers showcasing more than 600 selections of cold drinks.
