Save-A-Lot Opening New Stores in Pennsylvania, Tennessee

The discount, limited-assortment retailer's stores average 15,000 square feet

ST. LOUIS -- Save-A-Lot, one of the nation's leading hard-discount, limited-assortment grocery chains and a wholly owned subsidiary of SUPERVALU Inc., is opening four new stores in Pennsylvania in February and March, bringing the total number of Save-A-Lot stores in the state to 76.

The locations of the new stores and the dates they are scheduled to open are as follows: Tyrone (opened on February 15), Meadville (scheduled to open February 22), Erie (scheduled to open March 21) and Peckville (scheduled to open in late March).

Save-A-Lot also opened two stores in Pennsylvania in January: Upper Darby (opened January 25) and Clearfield (opened January 30).

Since January 2011 and including these new stores, Save-A-Lot has added 11 new stores in the Keystone State, creating approximately 242 new jobs.

The company also is opening three new stores in Tennessee in February, bringing the total number of Save-A-Lot stores in the state to 108.

The locations of the new stores and the dates they are scheduled to open are as follows: Woodbury (opened February 15), Nashville (scheduled to open February 23) and Chattanooga (scheduled to open February 28)

Since January 2011 and including these new stores, Save-A-Lot has added six new stores in the Volunteer State, creating approximately 132 new jobs.

Each Save-A-Lot store carries a carefully selected assortment of 1,200 to 1,500 of the most popular, in-demand every day grocery essentials, including farm-fresh fruits and vegetables, USDA-inspected meats, dairy products, bakery goods, shelf-ready and frozen foods, household goods, pet food, baby, and health and beauty care products.

The stores, which average about 15,000 square feet, feature a variety of brands, including Save-A-Lot Today, Coburn Farms and Tipton Grove, produced exclusively for Save-A-Lot by many of the country's leading food manufacturers.
