Two convenience-store chains made the National Retail Federation’s Top 50 Global Retailers list.
Tokyo-based Seven & i Holdings ranked No. 11 while Laval, Quebec-based Alimentation Couche-Tard ranked No. 29. The list ranks leading international retailers based largely on retail revenue through 2025.
Seven & i, owner of Irving, Texas-based 7-Eleven, generated $66 billion in revenues in 2025 and had 38,491 stores worldwide, according to NRF.
Couche-Tard, owner of the Circle K c-store chain, generated $18 billion in revenues with 13,291 stores worldwide, the report said.
- 7-Eleven is No. 1 on CSP’s 2025 Top 202 ranking of U.S. c-store chains by store count. Alimentation Couche-Tard is No. 2. Watch for the full 2026 Top 202 ranking in June.
Couche-Tard tried to acquire Seven & i Holdings in August 2024, but it withdrew its proposal in July 2025 after the two companies failed to come to an agreement.
Both Couche-Tard and Seven & i also made the Top 50 Global Retailers list last year, along with OXXO (FEMSA), which dropped off this year’s list.
Walmart topped the most recent list. It generated $692 billion in 2025 and operates nearly 11,000 stores. Amazon finished second with $422 billion in revenue.
“The retail industry continues to show its strength, delivering a solid year despite a range of ongoing challenges,” said NRF Chief Economist and Executive Director of Research Mark Mathews. “The retailers on this year’s list have demonstrated impressive growth and an understanding of evolving consumer needs, highlighting the industry’s continued resilience.”
Data, insights and consulting company Kantar compiles the list and assigns points based on domestic and international retail revenue.
