ALTOONA, Pa. — Sheetz Inc. plans to open as many as 60 new convenience stores in the Columbus, Ohio, market through 2025, the retailer has announced.

The company broke ground on its first two locations in the Columbus area—in Obetz and Delaware—the first of more than a dozen Sheetz locations planned to open between April 2021 and December 2021 in the market. Beginning in 2022, Sheetz plans to open approximately a dozen new stores annually in the Columbus area through 2025.

“We’re not coming in lightly, that’s for sure,” said Travis Sheetz, the company’s president and COO, told The Columbus Dispatch concerning the $250 million rollout. The retailer likes coming into a growing market where many people already are familiar with the brand, Travis Sheetz said. “Columbus has given our people really something to be excited about,” he said.

The family-owned chain operates 608 stores Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and Maryland; 43 of the stores are in Ohio. Sheetz offers a menu of M•T•O (Made To Order) sandwiches and salads, which customers order through touch-screen order-point terminals.

“We are thrilled to officially break ground and bring the ultimate one-stop-shop to the residents of Columbus,” said Travis Sheetz in the company's announcement. “Anchored by the values my Uncle Bob instilled when he founded Sheetz in 1952, we look forward to being a great employer, providing total customer focus, and being a good neighbor that is actively involved in every community we serve.”

Each store location will employ approximately 30 individuals, the majority of whom will full-time, said the company. Sheetz offers competitive pay and benefits packages to all employees, including medical and dental insurance, 12-week fully paid maternity leave, a 401(k) retirement plan, college tuition reimbursement, an employee stock ownership plan, flexible schedules, opportunities for advancement, quarterly bonuses, vacation time and more.

Sheetz is also committed to supporting the local communities each store serves, the company said, and it expects to have a positive effect on the residents of Columbus and the surrounding areas through its Made-to-Share food donation program, longstanding partnership with Special Olympics, Sheetz for the Kidz holiday donation campaign for children in need and more.

Skilken Gold, based in Columbus, is the exclusive real estate developer for Sheetz in central Ohio.
