Sheetz Investing $28.5 Million in Wages for Store Workers

C-store retailer increasing pay for most of its 18,000 employees

ALTOONA, Pa. — Convenience-store retailer Sheetz Inc. has furthered its commitment to its workforce with a $28.5 million investment in store employee wages. The company will increase wages for most of Sheetz’s 18,000 store employees, effective Feb. 12.

“Our employees are the heart and soul of this company,” said Travis Sheetz, president and COO of Sheetz. “Sheetz is committed to investing in our people and attracting and retaining top talent. We know in order to do this, we need to exceed expectations by providing competitive wages, industry-leading benefits, career development opportunities and much more.”

In May 2016, on the heels of investing more than $15 million to increase employee wages, Sheetz said it would hire more than 8,000 employees companywide. In March 2019, Sheetz announced a $16.8 million investment in wages, with plans to hire 2,500 employees chainwide for full-time and part-time positions in its stores. In October 2020, Sheetz announced an initiative to hire more than 3,000 employees companywide.

Consistently named one of the 100 Best Companies to Work For by Fortune magazine and the Great Place to Work Institute Inc., Sheetz offers competitive pay and benefits packages to all employees, including medical and dental insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, college tuition reimbursement, quarterly bonuses, an employee stock ownership plan, vacation time and more. Additionally, Sheetz recently updated the company’s parental leave policy which includes 12 weeks of fully paid time off for new mothers and two weeks of fully paid time off for partners.

As an essential business, Sheetz has been committed to staying open during the COVID-19 pandemic to serve the needs of the community with the safety of customers and employees as a top priority. In response to the health crisis, Sheetz immediately implemented new cleaning and sanitization protocols as well as new safety measures, increased pay for store employees, released new scan-and-go technology in support of social distancing recommendations, rolled out curbside pickup and delivery options, offered free coffee to healthcare workers to fuel them as they fought the pandemic on the front lines, donated more than 600,000 meals to children and families in need and much more.

Altoona, Pa.-based Sheetz operates 620 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio, West Virginia and North Carolina. The chain provides a menu of made-to-order sandwiches and salads ordered through unique touch-screen order point terminals. All Sheetz stores are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
