Convenience retailer Sheetz made Fortune magazine’s 100 Best Companies to Work For list for the 10th straight year. The Altoona, Pennsylvania-based company ranked 40 on the list and is the only c-store chain that made the cut. Other retailers, like Wegmans Food Markets, Publix Super Markets, Target Corp. and Walmart Inc., also made the list.

Sheetz has 24,873 U.S.-based employees, and 88% said that Sheetz is a great place to work, compared to 57% of employees at a typical U.S.-based company. That’s according to Fortune and Great Place to Work, which collaborate on an employee engagement survey that helps determine the ranking.

“We do not take this honor lightly, as being named to this prominent workplace list for 10 straight years reflects our commitment to our employees,” said Travis Sheetz, president and CEO of Sheetz. “As a family-owned and -operated company, the success and well-being of our team members have always been our top priority. They are the face of our brand in every community we serve, and we remain dedicated to providing them with fulfilling careers built on a culture of respect and a shared purpose of caring for people.”

Sheetz recently announced it is looking to hire 1,350 employees across its seven-state footprint. It offers competitive pay and benefits packages to all employees, the company said, along with college tuition reimbursement, an employee stock ownership plan, flexible schedules, quarterly bonuses and more.

  • Sheetz is No. 13 on CSP’s 2025 Top 40 Update to the 2024 Top 202 ranking of U.S. c-store chains by store count. Watch for the full 2025 Top 202 ranking in the June issue of CSP magazine and in CSP Daily News.

“Fortune is happy to have collaborated with Great Place to Work for the 28th year to recognize the 100 Best Companies to Work For,” said Alyson Shontel, editor-in-chief of Fortune. “In a difficult macro environment with unprecedented challenges, these companies seemed to navigate their organizations toward steady and positive working environments for employees.”

Great Place to Work selected the 100 companies by gathering and analyzing more than 1.3 million confidential survey responses representing the experiences of more than 8.4 million U.S. employees. Of those, more than 670,000 were from employees at eligible companies, and the list is based on that feedback. The feedback is matched against HR data from companies, and only companies with consistently high survey responses are placed on the list.

Established in 1952, Sheetz operates more than 760 stores across Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and Maryland.
