MORGANTOWN, W.Va. --Sheetz Inc. opened its new concept restaurant/grocery store, known as Sheetz at U Place, to the students and residents of Morgantown, W.Va. on March 3. The new store concept is located on the ground floor of University Place, a new mixed-use residential and retail complex a few blocks from West Virginia University's downtown campus.
This is the first location for Sheetz without gasoline, with a complete focus on the food and beverage offerings. More than two years in development, every detail of the concept will give customers a new way to enjoy Sheetz food and grocery offerings and provide locals and students a new way to shop, live and socialize in downtown Morgantown, the company said.
The 15,000-square-foot grocery store and café concept will serve as the first retailer to offer grocery options in the downtown Morgantown area in several years. Sheetz at University Place is triple the size of a typical Sheetz store and will provide indoor and outdoor seating for 100 customers.
In addition to the grand opening, Sheetz is offering a $10,000 dollar scholarship to one full- or part-time West Virginia University student; the company will select 10 finalists, and it will announce the winner on March 7 at the WVU vs. Oklahoma State University men's basketball game.
Altoona, Pa.-based Sheetz has more than $6.9 billion in revenue and more than 16,000 employees. The company operates 500 convenience stores throughout Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and North Carolina. The stores offer fresh food such as Made To Order (MTO) subs, sandwiches, burgers, salads, appetizers, breakfast sandwiches and more. They also feature MTGo! Ready-to-eat foods and Shweetz Bakery doughnuts and muffins, along with Sheetz Bros. Coffeez, a full-service espresso and smoothie bar where customers can order hand-made specialty coffee drinks including lattes, cappuccinos and mochas--hot, frozen or iced.
