TravelCenters of America’s CEO Debi Boffa has resigned from her role after decades with the company and is returning to her home country of New Zealand, a spokesperson from bp-owned TA confirmed to CSP Wednesday.
Greg Franks, senior vice president of mobility and convenience for the Americas of bp, is taking Boffa’s place as interim CEO.
Boffa has been with bp for almost 30 years. She was designated CEO of TA in May 2023, after bp purchased the Westlake, Ohio-based convenience operator for $1.3 billion.
She has worked across many sectors, including engineering, retail, sales, marketing and operations.
“We celebrate Debi's many accomplishments, particularly the last five years as she's led our U.S. retail businesses including ampm, Thorntons, and most recently TravelCenters of America,” TA said in a statement.
- bp is No. 5 on CSP’s 2025 Top 202 ranking of U.S. convenience-store chains by store count.
Prior to her role as CEO of TA, Boffa served as president of both bp’s Retail Operating Organization and Thorntons LLC, leading the integration of bp’s ampm business with Thorntons while concurrently overseeing the operations of more than 1,200 convenience stores nationwide.
Before joining bp, Franks spent more than 11 years with 7-Eleven. He had been elevated to SVP and chief franchise officer at the time of his departure from the c-store giant in 2021, according to his LinkedIn profile.
TA operates about 300 locations in 44 states under its TA, Petro Stopping Centers and TA Express brands.
The leadership transition comes during a tumultuous time for TA parent company bp.
The company announced during its second-quarter earnings call in August that it would be cutting about 6,200 corporate jobs by the end of 2026 as part of ongoing restructuring.
It is unclear whether Boffa’s departure is related to those cuts. The company had said the majority of the layoffs would come during the fourth quarter of 2025.
In its statement, TA did not outline its plans for finding Boffa’s successor.
