WAWA, Pa. -- In the next three months, Wawa Inc. plans to hire 1,000 Florida workers. All the convenience-store retailer’s 160 locations in the state are hiring.

More than 50 stores will host open-house hiring events on Jan. 16. Candidates who attend the open houses will meet their potential team members, go through a brief first-round interview and learn more about the Wawa culture. Participating locations will post signs advertising the events.

“At Wawa, part of commitment to fulfilling lives means adding jobs for new associates, while also providing advancement opportunities for the almost 6,000 Wawa associates who are part of our Wawa family in Florida,” said Elizabeth Moore, manager of talent acquisition and diversity for Wawa. “That’s why we’re thrilled to kick off this hiring campaign and add a number of new members to our growing Wawa family.”

Moore said Wawa is looking for applicants with a passion for serving others. Available positions include both seasonal and long-term hires.

Wawa’s associate benefits include healthcare, flexible schedules and tuition reimbursement. The retailer is about 41% employee owned through its employee stock ownership program (ESOP). About half of the program is owned by store-level associates and managers.

The Wawa, Pa.-based c-store chain plans to continue its expansion into Florida with up to 30 new stores annually for the next several years. This year the brand will expand into Ocala and Miami-Dade.

With 789 convenience stores, Wawa ranked No. 9 in CSP’s 2018 Top 202 list of the largest c-store chains in the United States.
