Wawa to Open 30 D.C. C-Stores

Reveals location, design of first store, plans for more

WASHINGTON -- Wawa Inc. plans to open more than 50 convenience stores in the Washington, D.C., and Florida markets, the company said on June 13 at a community partnership event to announce the site of its first store in the District of Columbia.

The retailer is set to open its first Washington, D.C., location in December at 1111 19th St. NW. The “one-of-a-kind” store will have an “upscale urban feel,” the company said.

Wawa revealed that it plans to open 25 stores in the mid-Atlantic and 25 stores in the Florida market each year for the next several years, including five to 10 stores in the Washington, D.C., market in the next two to three years.

Wawa will also continue its ongoing expansion in the surrounding counties in Maryland and Virginia to further its brand expansion, the company said.

Wawa, based in Wawa, Pa., has more than 750 c-stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Florida.
