Foodservice Mystery Shop: More Metrics, More Leaders

Chicago-based research firm Technomic, sister company of CSP, has its own brand-tracking program, Consumer Brand Metrics, which tracks consumer sentiment on more than 60 foodservice attributes from recent eating occasions.

Out of the participants in CSP's 2016 mystery shop that are also tracked by Technomic, Rutter’s Farm Stores came out on top for overall rating for the first quarter of 2016, followed closely by QuikTrip. Both chains emphasize a dynamic menu featuring both novel routine-breakers and perennial favorites. In fact, both chains outscored the other retailers on “craveable items” unique to the brand by nearly 10 percentage points.

Here’s how some of the leaders from the mystery-shop program rated in Technomic’s Consumer Brand Metrics for the first quarter of 2016. Among these four players, Rutter’s

Farm Stores scored the highest overall, as well as for food quality, taste and flavor attributes.
