7-Eleven Canada's Cups Play Cupid ... Or Not

Retailer invites customers to share relationship status over coffee this Valentine's Day

VANCOUVER, B.C. --This year, 7-Eleven wants to make people smile and take Valentine's Day a little less seriously by encouraging them to share their relationship status in a fun way, over coffee. Between February 12 and February 14, 7-Eleven Canada will serve its coffee in limited-edition, customized coffee cups that will reveal whether the customer is "Single," "Taken" or "It's Complicated."

The promotion will run across all stores from British Columbia to Ontario, while cup quantities last.

Each cup comes with check box options to explain the chosen status.

Those who opt for a Taken cup can choose from options such as "But flirting's okay" or "We can still be friends." Guests who are Single (or claim to be) can tick the back of their cup and reveal choices including "I'm a work in progress" or "I cut my own hair." And for those daring souls willing to admit that It's Complicated, they can check off boxes including "I'm exploring my options" or "I'm waiting for him/her to text me back."

7-Eleven is taking this status sharing further by getting coffee lovers to post a photo of themselves, their cup status and quick story on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter using #coffeelovers and @7ElevenCanada.

Five people will win $150 certificates for a restaurant of their choice. The contest closes February 14.

"We know how important sharing your status and story online is to a lot of people so we wanted to find a new and light-hearted way to let our guests do this offline while enjoying their daily coffee," said Raj Kapoor, vice president and general manager of 7-Eleven Canada. "First dates and coffee go together, and we all like to tell our story over a hot drink. Combine this with the fact that coffee is the second most consumed beverage in Canada, it just makes sense."
