Antunes Flatbread Toaster Wins 2018 Kitchen Innovations Award

Honor given to equipment and technology that streamline foodservice operations

CAROL STREAM, Ill. -- Antunes has received an award from the National Restaurant Association for an appliance that helps create more efficient foodservice operations. The equipment manufacturer earned the 2018 Kitchen Innovations Award for its GST-1H Flatbread Toaster.

Designed with speed and consistency in mind, the toaster heats flatbreads and tortillas from above and below, reaching higher temperatures than other units on the market, according to a news release.

The compact equipment also helps retailers lower their energy bills and footprint, the company says. In fact, the toaster outpaces the energy efficiency of an equally rated flat-top griddle used to prepare tortillas in a national quick-service restaurant chain, according to the release.

“Whether for American fare or global cuisines, our Flatbread Toaster delivers a consistent quality product—giving operators the quick and efficient solution they need to better serve their customers,” said Daniel Schmidt, director of strategic operations for Antunes, in the release. “Our Egg Station received a [Kitchen Innovations] Award in 2017, and to be honored with this prestigious award in back-to-back years is an extraordinary accomplishment for our team that emphasizes our commitment to creating innovative equipment solutions to drive success for our customers.”

Antunes is based in Carol Stream, Ill., and last year was named Family Business of the Year by the Family Business Center at Loyola University Chicago’s Quinlan School of Business.
