Army & Air Force Exchange Service Honors Deli Express

Gives sandwich supplier its Vendor Partnership Award

MINNEAPOLIS -- Deli Express, a major supplier of hot and cold sandwiches sold through convenience stores, said recently that it was recognized with the 2007 Vendor Partnership Award from the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES). The award recognizes Deli Express for its outstanding service to AAFES through continued sales growth and effective promotions and programs.

AAFES provides products and services to military families worldwide, generating funds that supplement military morale, welfare and recreation programs. Deli Express hot and cold sandwiches, bakery items and other [image-nocss] food goods are sold at AAFES Shoppettes—on-base convenience stores—both domestically and overseas.

"We are honored to be recognized by AAFES with its 2007 Vendor Partnership Award," said Tom H. Sween, president of Deli Express, a division of the E.A. Sween Co., Minneapolis. "Deli Express takes great pride in providing high-quality products and service to our customers in an effort to help them achieve greater sales, and we appreciate that our efforts have made a difference."

AAFES sales of Deli Express food items were up 44% in 2007 over 2006. Today, AAFES is Deli Express' third-largest retail customer.

Dallas-based AAFES operates more than 3,000 facilities worldwide, in more than 30 countries, five U.S. territories and 49 states. It operates 143 retail stores and more than 2,200 fast food restaurants, such as Taco Bell, Burger King, Popeyes and Cinnabon. AAFES also provides military communities with convenience, specialty stores and movie theaters on installations worldwide, including locations in Operations Enduring and Iraqi Freedom. AAFES is a joint command of the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force, and is directed by a board of directors who is responsible to the Secretaries of the Army and the Air Force through the Service Chiefs of Staff. AAFES has the dual mission of providing authorized patrons with articles of merchandise and services and of generating non-appropriated fund earnings as a supplemental source of funding for military morale, welfare and recreation (MWR) programs.

Deli Express sandwiches can be found in more than 26,000 c-stores, drug stores, vending machines and other grocery outlets across the country. The company sells 75 million sandwiches every year.
