MADISON, Wis. –7-Eleven, Kangaroo Express, Pilot Flying J, RaceTrac are among the many convenience-stores and others offering free or discounted hot dogs today, July 23, for National Hot Dog Day.
- 7-Eleven: $1 Big Bite hot dogs all day.
- Kangaroo Express: 50-cent hot dogs from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., one free with military ID, at 280 participating grill-ready locations in select counties in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
- Pilot Flying J: One free hot dog with coupon, printed or on mobile device.
- RaceTrac: One free hot dog for RaceTrac Insiders with coupon.
Meanwhile, wiener-maker Oscar Mayer is celebrating by going off road … sort of.
The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile vehicle fleet has been a part of Americana since 1936. It has now unveiled the Wiener Rover, an “all-terrain” mini-Wienermobile on heavy-duty wheels that will deliver hot dogs to fans across the country for National Hot Dog Day. The Wiener Rover is a smaller, remote-controlled and battery-powered version of the iconic vehicle.
Not only is the Wiener Rover able to go off-roading over grass, dirt and rocks, but it also delivers a cargo of warm, ready-to-eat hot dogs.
"We consistently hear that people are hungry for a hot dog after they see the Wienermobile, but we have never been able to offer them the deliciousness they desire," said Corey Rudd, senior associate brand manager at Oscar Mayer. "We developed the Wiener Rover to go where no Wienermobile has gone before to surprise and delight our loyal fans at their local parks, beaches, festivals and beyond."
About one-seventh the size of the original Wienermobile, the Wiener Rover comes in at 23 inches tall and 43 inches long (or about four hot dogs by eight hot dogs) and is capable of reaching speeds of approximately 20 mph. The hot dog compartment is able to hold up to eight hot dogs, as well as condiments like Heinz Tomato Ketchup and Heinz Yellow Mustard.
The Wiener Rover made its debut in New York City on July 23.
