ANKENY, Iowa — In yet another measure of COVID-19 relief, Casey’s General Stores Inc. will donate 10 million meals to school-aged children and their families through a new partnership with Chicago-based nonprofit Feeding America in honor of Hunger Action Month.

Casey’s has collaborated with the Coca-Cola Co. to achieve its goal and will donate $1 to Feeding America for every Coca-Cola four-pack purchased at one of its locations. Each dollar provides at least ten meals secured by Feeding America. Customers can also round up their in-store purchases at Casey’s to assist with the program.

  • Casey’s, based in Ankeny, Iowa, has more than 2,200 convenience stores in 16 states. It is No. 4 on CSP’s2020 Top 202 ranking of c-store chains by number of retail outlets.

Casey’s team members will also be volunteering at a food bank in September.

“Casey’s is at the heart of every community it serves, and hunger is present in these communities whether you see it every day or not,” said Megan Elfers, vice president of marketing for Casey’s General Stores. “As little as $1 provides at least 10 meals through Feeding America, and, working together, we can get millions of meals, quickly and directly, to our neighbors in need.”

About 40% of Americans who are receiving food support during the pandemic have never needed Feeding America’s help before, according to the nonprofit. Beyond that, about 18 million children are expected to become food-insecure in 2020 because of the pandemic.

“The Coca-Cola Co.’s purpose is to refresh the world and make a difference,” said Kevin LeMoyne, vice president of national retail sales for Coca-Cola, Atlanta. “We are proud to partner with Casey’s and Feeding America to support the fight against hunger in our local communities.”

Casey’s first partnered with Feeding America in May to provide $500,000 to school-aged children and their families enduring the pandemic. Since then, Casey’s has provided cash donations to support COVID-19 relief at food banks in its communities and a donation of nearly 40,000 pounds of in-kind food product to two Feeding America member food banks.

“This is a critical moment in the fight against hunger,” said Lauren Biedron, vice president of corporate partnerships for Feeding America. “Our partnership with Casey’s helps us meet the needs of so many communities across the heart of America. We are grateful for their support and commitment to helping our neighbors in need, especially during Hunger Action Month."

Feeding America is the largest network of food banks, pantries and meal programs in the United States. It has 200 food banks in its network and feeds more than 40 million people nationwide.
