WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- On Friday, June 3, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. will celebrate National Doughnut Day by offering customers a free doughnut of their choice in participating stores throughout the United States.
National Doughnut Day was established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to raise funds during the Depression and to honor the work of World War I Salvation Army volunteers who prepared doughnuts for thousands of soldiers. National Doughnut Day is celebrated annually on the first Friday in June.
Also, in celebration [image-nocss] of DreamWorks Animation's new computer animated feature film Madagascar, Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Krispy Kreme recently rolled out, for a limited time, a Madagascar Tropical Sprinkle Doughnut at participating U.S. retail stores.
