Retailer unveils monster-sized sandwich, promotion

ALTOONA, Pa. -- Two new programs at Sheetz should be a lure to customers in the coming month and well into the future. One is a promotion that will give one customer 8,000 in free gasoline. The other is a new monsterer, that is, Shmonsterbreakfast sandwich.

Just when you thought it was safe to go out for breakfast, Sheetz -- the Altoona, Pa.-based chain that brings you Shmuffins, Shmiscuits and Shmagels -- has unleashed The Shmonster. With its double egg, double meat and double cheese, The Shmonster is a whole lot of sandwich and only $1 more than [image-nocss] the regular-sized breakfast sandwiches.

"This is not a breakfast sandwich for the faint of heart; we named it 'Shmonster' for a reason," said Louie Sheetz, executive vice president of marketing, Sheetz Inc. "This is a big sandwich that our customers tell us they want, loaded with double everything. So for those times when you want to sink your teeth into a monster of a breakfast sandwich, The Shmonster has arrived."

Sheetz noted that while The Shmonster might be a bit scary to those who don't have a big appetite, it will satisfy those who enjoy a tasty breakfast sandwich and provide the fuel Sheetz customers need to jump-start their day. The Shmonster is available now at all 319 Sheetz locations.

Meanwhile, as part of a new promotion, Sheetz will award an entire tanker of gasoline to a customer who uses a MasterCard at participating Sheetz stores through December 28, 2005. Sheetz customers across Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and North Carolina who use any MasterCard at participating Sheetz stores will automatically be entered to win a tanker full of gasoline. The more customers use a MasterCard at Sheetz, the more chances they have to win.

"This is the most exciting promotion Sheetz has ever had. Some lucky Sheetz customer is going to win a tanker truck full of gas! That's 8,000 gallons of gas!" said Sheetz. "For the average person who uses 465 gallons of gas a year, it's like getting 17 years worth of gasoline!"

Customers can also sign up for the new Sheetz MasterCard to save even more with cash-back rewards on every purchase. Earlier in 2005, Sheetz was the nation's first retailer to install MasterCard PayPass systemwide. MasterCard PayPass cardholders simply tap a PayPass-enabled MasterCard on specially equipped terminals that utilize a radio frequency chip to complete transactions. Payment is completed quickly, securely and easily, without the hassle of swiping a card, fumbling for cash and coins or signing a receipt.
