Foodservice Handbook 2018: Challenges

Finding talent joins minimum wage and menu labeling as areas to watch

CHICAGO -- The ever-changing regulatory landscape continues to be challenging for all operators. Minimum wage and menu labeling, at 53% and 41%, respectively, are the top issues facing operators. Another obstacle is finding talent, with 75% of all operators identifying the labor pool as a challenging factor when trying to grow their foodservice businesses.

Minimum wage remains a top concern for operators across all segments: Nearly 30 states now have laws mandating higher pay than the federal minimum wage. However, 46% of c-store operators are concerned about swipe fees vs. 36% of grocery operators.

And at 86%, operators of quick-service restaurants find labor costs to be the most challenging business factor when trying to grow their foodservice operations.
