Fuel and convenience retailer Fuel Mart has opened its first Midwest Taco Company at its Austin, Indiana, location. The Mexican restaurant concept was made in partnership with Core-Mark International, and features items such as breakfast tacos, burritos bowls and more.

The restaurant had a soft opening on Sept. 4, and it will celebrate its grand opening starting at 6 a.m. on Oct. 27 at 145 N. Dowling St., Austin, Indiana.

Midwest Taco Company has been in development for two years, Fuel Mart said in an announcement on Monday, and the retail team has been working to perfect each ingredient, sauce and menu item, as well as training new employees in store.

"We’re bringing bold Mexican flavors together with the warmth and hospitality of the Midwest," said John Crawford, vice president of retail at Ports Petroleum Co. Inc., which owns Fuel Mart. "Every taco, every plate—fresh, fast, and full of flavor."

The Fuel Mart in Austin was recently rebuilt. The store was previously a 1,000-square-foot Fuel Mart with a small gas and diesel offering, Ports Petroleum Marketing Coordinator Jessica Henry told CSP. The new store now features a full-service truck stop that sits on 9 acres of land with 12 gas fueling positions and six high-flow diesel lanes. The new building is 7,700 square feet and offers multiple food options in addition to Midwest Taco Company, including Hunt Brothers Pizza and Subway.

“We’ve been serving the Austin market since 1989 and we’re thrilled to not only bring them a fully rebuilt Fuel Mart, but also the very first Midwest Taco Company. We’re excited about the food, and we can’t wait to get everyone out to try it,” President Matt Ports said.

The Fuel Mart in Austin is open 24 hours, and Midwest Taco Company is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Breakfast ends at 10:30 a.m. every day.

There are 14 Fuel Mart locations throughout Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and South Dakota, according to the company’s website. Each location offers diesel fuel and unleaded gasoline, along with a large selection of everyday items.
