Harbor Wholesale Foods Acquires Assets From Food Services of America

Includes 250,000-square-foot distribution facility in Kent, Wash.

LACEY, Wash. — Convenience-store and restaurant foodservice distributor Harbor Wholesale Foods has acquired assets from Food Services of America (FSA), a broad-line foodservice distributor, for an undisclosed amount.

Among these assets is FSA’s 250,000-square-foot distribution facility in Kent, Wash. Harbor will assume a portion of the customer base served by this facility, including about 1,700 independent restaurant operators in Washington. FSA’s executive leadership team and other associates will join Harbor, creating a combined team of nearly 700 people. FSA’s leadership team will still lead the distribution facility and continue its daily operations, systems, tools and technology.

"The acquisition of a portion of FSA's Seattle business aligns well with our existing culture and values," said Justin Erickson, CEO of Harbor Wholesale Foods. "We've grown our business over the years through our dedication to serving our independent and locally owned customer base. Our success is the result of empowering our team members to best serve our customers at every interaction. We've been serving [Northwest] communities for 96 years, and the FSA Seattle business provides a platform to expand our presence and positive influence throughout the region."

Based in Scottsdale, Ariz., FSA offers services in the Midwest, West Coast and Alaska. The company works with private, local, public and national foodservice operations to help maximize their sales, enhance their efficiencies, reduce expenses and effectively manage day-to-day operations. FSA is a division of the Services Group of America (SGA) Food Group.

"As our company evolved, we shifted our focus to retail grocery and convenience-store distribution,” Erickson said. “As foodservice has become the primary focus of convenience stores over the past 10-plus years, we've expanded our capabilities in foodservice to retain and grow our position as the [Northwest’s] leading convenience-store distributor.”

Lacey, Wash.-based Harbor Wholesale Foods is a family-owned distributor that specializes in fresh foodservice, snacks, candy, beverages, tobacco and health and beauty. Its fresh food program includes grab-and-go delis, sandwiches, salads, dairy, nuts, fresh and dried fruits, juices and produce. The company works with more than 2,000 c-stores, restaurants and other foodservice operations in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska.
