WASHINGTON -- McLane Co. and NACS are in the running for the Partner of the Year Award from the Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA). The organization has recognized them for their commitment to helping Americans make healthier choices.

McLane, a Temple, Texas-based distributor for the convenience-store and grocery industries, nabbed a nomination from the PHA last year, as well.

Other award finalists include the Des Moines Area Religious Council; Produce Marketing Association/Sesame Street eat brighter; and the University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension.

Beyond their PHA commitments, the award contenders showed leadership in the health and wellness space by focusing on those populations disproportionately affected by obesity, doing well while doing good, using an innovative approach to address childhood obesity or creating a ripple effect within their industry.

PHA will announce the Partner of the Year recipient at its 2019 Summit: Accelerating a Healthier Future, to be held April 1-2 in Chicago. CSP will serve as a media sponsor at the event. Conference speakers include foodservice industry experts, including Sara Burnett, Panera Bread’s vice president of wellness and food policy, and Marissa Thiry, Taco Bell’s nutrition specialist for North America.

PHA’s mission is to leverage the power of the private sector to bring lasting systemic changes that improve the food supply, increase healthy choices, increase physical activity and contribute to a culture of health. In 2010, PHA was created in conjunction with, but independent from First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! effort.
