BROOMFIELD, Colo. — So Delicious Dairy Free, which has been making dairy-free products for more than 30 years, is rolling out Wondermilk, a new line of dairy-free frozen desserts.

These rich-and-creamy frozen desserts are crafted with a blend of dairy-free ingredients designed to deliver on key attributes of traditional dairy, like the sweetly balanced taste and creamy texture, the company said.

So Delicious Wondermilk Frozen Desserts are available in five pint flavors and two cone flavors, all of which are vegan certified and Non-GMO Project Verified.

More than 80% of American households have ice cream in their freezer, but only about 11% are dairy-free offerings, according to retail sales data from IRI for 52 weeks ending Dec. 26, 2021. The reason for this is many consumers believe dairy-free alternatives don’t stack up to traditional dairy frozen desserts, So Delicious Dairy Free said, adding that a 2021 Food Business News survey found that among mostly plant-based U.S. consumers, around two-thirds always choose the dairy version of ice cream while only a quarter consider dairy-free alternatives.

The five frozen Wondermilk dessert pints are:

  • Buttery pecan, featuring rich caramel and pecans
  • Vanilla
  • Chocolate cocoa chip, with rich cocoa swirled into each bite
  • Cookies and creme offers
  • Strawberry

The frozen sundae cones:

  • Salted caramel, which includes chocolatey swirls
  • Vanilla peanut, with crunchy peanut toppings and smooth chocolatey swirls

“Let’s face it, people are still skeptical about dairy-free alternatives, especially when it comes to ice cream,” said John Starkey, president of plant-based food and beverages, Broomfield, Colo.-based Danone North America, whose portfolio includes So Delicious Dairy Free. “We asked ourselves if we could do something revolutionary—transform the right blend of dairy-free ingredients to create deliciousness that rivals the rich and creamy attributes of dairy ice cream. Our dedicated team worked tirelessly to capture that magic, and now So Delicious Wondermilk is raising the bar for the entire dairy-free frozen dessert category.”

Wondermilk frozen desserts have a manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) of $5.49 per pint and $5.49 for a box of three cones.

Danone North America’s portfolio also includes Activia, DanActive, Danimals, Dannon, evian, Happy Family Organics, Honest to Goodness, Horizon Organic, International Delight, Light + Fit, Oikos, Silk, STōK, Two Good, Wallaby Organic and YoCrunch. It has more than 6,000 employees and 16 production locations across the United States and Canada.
