Parker's Signs on With Chester's

Chicken concept also going trans fat free by yearend

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Chester's International LLC, a major fried chicken foodservice offering in the convenience store category, said that it has signed a multi-unit franchise agreement with Parker's Convenience Stores. The agreement calls for eight Chester's locations to be open within Parker's c-stores in the Greater Savannah, Ga., area over the next two months.

After operating a proprietary fried chicken program for the past 25 years, Parker's decided to transition its foodservice to Chester's branded fried chicken concept. The flexible design of the [image-nocss] Chester's program allowed the Parker's locations to be retrofitted with minimal buildout of the existing footprints.

Chester's has a profound commitment to doing fried chicken better than anyone, said Parker's president and CEO Greg Parker. The proven methodology of the Chester's program and delicious final product allow us to offer our customers a consistent and quality foodservice option for all three dayparts including takeout.

The multi-unit agreement with Parker's signals progress in Chester's aggressive growth strategy to further expand its franchise program in travel plazas and c-stores across the United States and the Caribbean region.

Birmingham, Ala.-based Chester's currently operates more than 1,200 locations.

Meanwhile, Chester's announced that it has embarked on a systemwide transition to 100% trans fat-free operations.

This is an effort we embarked on more than a year ago, but until manufacturers began offering alternative oil products with national distribution, we had limited availability for our more than 1,700 locations across the country, said Chester's International CEO Ted Giles. Now that the issue has received national attention, manufacturers have begun offering these alternative products nationwide and we were able to make the switch.

The transition is expected to be complete by the end of 2007, said the Birmingham, Ala.-based company.

Chester's International offers quick-serve restaurant (QSR) concepts with more than 1,700 Chester Fried licensed and Chester's franchised locations. It features flexible size and store layout options, training and support for its products. Chester's uses fresh chicken that is specially marinated and double-breaded using a proprietary family recipe and offers bone-in, tenders and potato wedges as well as sandwiches, wraps, salads, breakfast and sides.
