YORK, Pa. — Rutter’s will offer free meals to its employees and medical and military first responders on July 24 through its new Feeding the Frontline coronavirus-relief initiative.
The meal includes a grab-and-go sandwich or wrap, a bag of chips and a regular fountain drink. Meals are limited to one per person and are available to the first 200 customers to enter the convenience stores. Eligible first responders must show their medical or military identification.

This continues Rutter’s food relief initiatives amid the pandemic. Between March and May, the chain donated more than $50,000 worth of food and beverages to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, including packaged family-size meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Rutter’s and the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank had also collaborated prior to the pandemic, when Rutter’s donated more than $400,000 in food and drinks in 2019.
Through July, Rutter’s will collect money via its monthly Charity Cannister program alongside the American Red Cross to help support local Red Cross initiatives. Customers can donate to the Red Cross at any Rutter’s location during this time.
“Rutter’s is proud to support our frontline workers, including our fantastic store employees, during these challenging times,” said Scott Hartman, president and CEO of Rutter’s. “Being able to support the frontline and give back to our communities, through the Red Cross and Rutter’s Children’s Charities, is needed right now and we’re happy we can help.”
Rutter’s will also donate $1,000 a day to various local charities that support first responders from July 18 through July 23. On July 24, Rutter’s will donate $5,000.

York, Pa.-based Rutter’s operates nearly 80 stores in Central Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Maryland. It is No. 87 on CSP's 2020 Top 202 ranking of U.S. c-store chains by size.
