From chicken nuggets to a jalapeno popper pizza to sandwiches, a few convenience-store chains are rolling out new foodservice items—and a quick-service restaurant (QSR) concept is bringing one back. Read on for the details.

Sheetz

Sheetz, Altoona, Pennsylvania, is adding new made-to-order chicken nuggets (top left) to its menu. Chicken Nugz are now available at all of Sheetz’s 750-plus locations across Pennsylvania, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia.

Customization allows customers to create their favorite bite by choosing from five different seasonings: Nacho Seasoning, Ranch Dust, Voodoo Seasoning, Old Bay and Cajun Kick, Sheetz said.

Customers also can choose from 14 dipping sauces: ketchup, BBQ sauce, ranch, honey mustard, Buffalo sauce, tangy teriyaki, bleu cheese, garlic sauce, Golden BBQ, Buffalo Garlic Blitz, Boom Boom Sauce, jalapeno ranch, nacho cheese and sweet and sour.

“The new Nugz were inspired by customer demand and are available in four, eight, 12, 20 and 40 counts,” Rutter’s said.

Rutter’s

Rutter’s has added three new sandwiches (bottom right) to its fall menu.

The Pork Reuben Tower, Ham and Swiss Sliders, and Blazin’ Bird are the three new additions to the York, Pennsylvania-based c-store chain’s limited-time-offer menu.

The Pork Reuben tower is a triple-layered twist on a classic Reuben. It includes three layers of rye packed with pulled pork, sauerkraut, thousand island dressing and melted Swiss cheese.

The Ham and Swiss Sliders are six bite-sized sandwiches with layers of ham, melted Swiss cheese and a honey mustard dressing all served on soft slider rolls.

The Blazin’ Bird is “a perfect blend of heat and sweet,” Rutter’s said. It’s a chicken filet with a kick of spice on a toasted pretzel roll, topped with Carolina Reaper cheese and a mango habanero sauce.

Casey’s

Casey’s General Stores has a new Jalapeño Popper Pizza (top right) that features Philadelphia Whipped Cream Cheese, a blend of real cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, bacon, mild pickled jalapeños and a drizzle of Mike’s Hot Honey.

Casey’s new Jalapeño Popper Pizza is the latest evidence of our promise to lead the way in unexpected food innovations, proving that you can enjoy a delicious, boldly flavored meal from a convenience store,” said Tom Brennan, Ankeny, Iowa-based Casey’s chief merchandising officer.

The pizza is available by the slice, and customers can order a whole pizza online or in the Casey’s app for a limited time. Customers can now also add a drizzle of Mike’s Hot Honey on any pizza when they order it online.

Chester’s Chicken

Meanwhile, at fresh fried chicken quick-service restaurant concept Chester’s Chicken, Birmingham, Alabama, a limited-time offer is back on the menu.

Kentucky Bourbon Bites (bottom left) are marinated, breaded, fried and tossed in Cattlemen’s Kentucky Bourbon BBQ Sauce for a sweet, smoky and savory flavor.

Kentucky Bourbon Bites are made with Chester's marinated breast chunks, which were introduced last year. Cattlemen’s Kentucky Bourbon BBQ Sauce blends the flavors of oaky bourbon, sweet molasses and warm, signature spices.

Kentucky Bourbon Bites are available on their own or as a Bites Combo featuring eight chicken bites, a small side and a honey butter biscuit.
